Frequently Asked Questions
Why "Have Shovel"?
One of my dad’s earliest jobs was digging ditches, which is kind of the epitome of blue collar jobs. I have been “forklift certified” for over 20 years. When I think about the people I want to help most, I think a lot about the co-workers I’ve had at a number of blue collar jobs over the years.
Additionally, I like the shovel as a metaphor for getting in the trenches with someone, excavating for a solid foundation, and planting things for the future.
What is a fiduciary?
Someone with a fiduciary duty is legally bound to put their clients best interests ahead of their own.
Certified Financial Planners (CFP) and Investment Advisory Representatives have a fiduciary duty to their clients. However, having those credentials does not mean an individual will faithfully execute that duty.
How can I help?
If you are a developer, engineer, or UX designer looking for experience, please feel welcome to reach out and introduce yourself. I’m not hiring yet, but you never know. I don’t ask people to do free work, but sometimes an enthusiastic volunteer shows up.
If you’re a financial professional, I’d love to pick your brain some time about what you’re doing, how you feel about it, what you feel needs to change in the industry.
And if you’re concerned about your personal finances, I’d love to do a user interview with you and discover your paint points. This helps me get an idea of what problems are the most common and how we can start solving them.
